March 10, 2014, Seoul – Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Lee Seung-soo) has launched a 1350V/20A class soft switching Reverse Conducting (RC) IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) with a monolithic integrated reverse conducting diode. The new 20A RC-H5 device represents a further advancement in the performance of Infineon's RC-H product family, meeting the system efficiency requirements and demanding reliability demands of induction cooking applications.

Compared to the previous generation product, the new RC-H5 reduces switching losses by up to 30 percent, enabling designers to utilize higher frequencies reaching up to 30KHz. Consequently, systems adopting the RC-H5 device achieve approximately 0.5 percent improvement in system efficiency, and can accomplish overall system performance exceeding 92 percent. Additionally, smaller inductors using less copper can be adopted, lowering overall system costs. The RC-H5 IGBT discrete is based on the innovative technology of the RC-H3 currently being used in existing designs.

The RC-H5 reduces power losses and achieves superior thermal performance even at high ambient temperatures up to 175°C maximum, improving system reliability. Furthermore, by reducing turn-on spike current by 10 percent, stress on passive components within the system is reduced, enhancing reliability. EMI performance is also improved. Therefore, designers can reduce filtering requirements and lower system costs.

The RC-H5 product family includes 1200V and 1350V blocking voltage products with 20A current capacity and is offered in TO-247 package. The RC-H5 1350V/20A product is ready for supply, and the RC-H5 1200V/20A product is scheduled to be supplied starting from the second quarter of 2014.
