Hong Kong, March 12, 2014 – Altera (NASDAQ: ALTR) announced that it is providing two new SoftSilicon® FPGA solutions as standards-based OTN solutions that optical transport equipment manufacturers can use at speeds beyond 100 gigabits per second (B100G). These platforms combine comprehensive IP solutions with FPGAs to reduce design time, integration work, and testing, enabling customers to focus more on value-added technology differentiation.
The two new products are the Altera SoftSilicon 400G Transponder/Muxponder (TPO516) and the Altera SoftSilicon single-chip 20-channel "any-rate" mapper (TPOC226) with integrated SAR (segmentation and reassembly) functionality, applicable to advanced ODU "cross-connect" systems in OTN-based transmission networks. These products, as the industry's first fully integrated 200G and 400G OTN solutions, simplify development work when equipment manufacturers transition to high-capacity transmission.
Visiting the Altera booth (#4453) at OFC, you can see in detail industry-leading OTN solutions that achieve 400G and 1Tb throughput with a single device and enable migration from 28nm to 20nm and then to 14nm technology.
Through these products optimized for Arria 10 and Stratix 10 FPGAs and SoCs, Altera now provides a comprehensive portfolio meeting the complex technical requirements of 400G and 1Tb OTN applications. These products and future products are manufactured using Intel's advanced 14nm Tri-Gate process, minimizing customer product time-to-market with advanced solutions while reducing risk and maintaining cost-effectiveness.
Altera's OTN SoftSilicon FPGA platform portfolio includes reference hardware-validated standard devices and well-defined feature sets, pinouts, and software APIs to maximize time-to-market. SoftSilicon devices are built and validated using reference platforms closely resembling target applications, minimizing system integrators' development risk. Therefore, these FPGA platforms can reduce risk from meeting new or changing requirements from end customers or standards organizations.
Altera provides unified software APIs conveniently applicable to diverse solutions. This enables software teams to efficiently integrate their solutions into system software and makes software maintenance much easier, particularly as hardware solutions gradually migrate to more integrated implementations and new process nodes over time.
