March 12, 2014, Seoul — NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI) announced the launch of the KMA215, a programmable angular sensor. This product complies with the latest Single Edge Nibble Transmission (SENT, SAE J2716 JAN2010 SENT) standard and features digital output capabilities. With future versions of the SENT standard in mind, the KMA215 already supports 12-bit high-speed transmission and doubles the frame rate. Suitable for any automotive device requiring mechanical angle measurement, the KMA215 offers excellent Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) performance. Furthermore, it significantly reduces system costs by eliminating the need for additional external components. In particular, it is suitable for all powertrain devices where accuracy and robustness are essential.

The fully calibrated and ready-to-use KMA215 features a complete sensor system, including the battery, within a single package. Furthermore, it complies with the latest SENT protocol, a standard interface within automotive management control units, and ensures accurate digital data processing and transmission by providing a modern, medium-sized single-sensor architecture. The KMA215 is designed to support the demands of the global automotive market by complying with the SENT digital protocol and combines NXP's latest MR and ABCD9 technologies. The angle sensor features a push-pull output and pulse shaping that enables the reduction of emission levels without the addition of external components.

NXP's robust automotive sensor family enables reliable, high-resolution data transmission. The KMA215 features Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) and Error Detection and Correction (EDC) protection, as well as magnetic loss and broken bond wire detection capabilities. Notably, while the industry average is 150°C, this product operates at temperatures up to 160°C. This is indispensable in Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems, where every 1°C is critical.
