The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport discussed the current status of policy implementation and future plans to prepare for the commercialization of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) in 2025.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 12th (Fri) that it held the 6th main consultative meeting of UAM Team Korea (UTK) in Daejeon.

Through this meeting, five working groups for the UAM ecosystem—covering policy, aircraft and operations, infrastructure, traffic management, and value-added services—will be established, and the results of discussions by each group will be reflected in regulations and research and development projects.

In addition, various policy implementation statuses were discussed, including trends in the enactment of UAM legislation, the current status of R&D, and key matters related to demonstration projects.

The key contents of the UAM-related bills proposed so far included definitions of UAM concepts and terms, special regulatory provisions, and the establishment of legal grounds for administrative and financial support. These will be converted into a basic law following commercialization.

Although the K-UAM planning project was not selected for the preliminary feasibility study and the ministries were separated, the project was re-planned by addressing the reasons for non-selection and adjusting the project to focus on urgent matters. The project was selected by the Ministry of Science and ICT as a target for the first rapid preliminary feasibility study in 2023, and preparations for the preliminary feasibility study and budget allocation are being pursued to launch the project in 2024.

For the UAM demonstration routes in the metropolitan area in 2024, the demonstration is scheduled to proceed in the order of Phase 1 Ara Waterway, Phase 2 Han River, and Phase 3 Tancheon, taking safety into consideration.
