STMicroelectronics Launches 'STM32Cube,' Latest Development Platform for STM32 Microcontrollers

March 13, 2014, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company contributing to customers across a wide range of electronic applications and a leader in ARM® Cortex®-M processor-based microcontrollers, announced 'STM32Cube™', a free design tool and software for STM32 microcontrollers. With the launch of this latest development platform, which makes customer projects simpler and faster, STM32 will more rapidly establish itself as the synonym for microcontrollers for innovative electronic product design.
The latest development platform, STM32Cube, consists of 'STM32CubeMX,' a graphical configurator that provides users with step-by-step instructions, an initial setup C-code generator, and a set of embedded software components that store integrated software from various sources. This software features a new Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) that enables simple porting of one STM32 chip to another. Because this platform integrates all common software components required for STM32 microcontroller application development into a single package, it eliminates the need for the complex process of evaluating dependencies between individual software components. STM32Cube provides an update mechanism with numerous examples to enable faster and more efficient access to the latest versions of these software.
Michel Buffa, General Manager of ST Microcontrollers, said, “With STM32Cube, you can maximize the benefits of the broad STM32 portfolio. STM32 consists of over 360 microcontrollers and offers broad hardware and software compatibility, covering a wide range of performance, power, and features,” adding, “We have now launched a graphical configuration tool and new middleware and HAL that support high-performance STM32 F4 devices. Mass production is scheduled to begin within 2014, and we will expand support to all STM32 devices.”
