
March 18, 2014 – Analog Devices ( www.analog.com , NASDAQ: ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications, today announced the ADP1055 advanced digital power controller supporting the PMBus™ interface for high-density, isolated DC-DC power supply applications.
The ADP1055 features ADI's high-resolution, high-speed A/D converter sensing technology, which combines ADI's proprietary non-linear transmission technology for excellent bandwidth performance with transient response performance comparable to traditional analog switching controllers.
The ADP1055 is a versatile digital controller that supports six pulse-width modulation (PWM) logic outputs programmable via a PMBus interface using an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI). This device implements a high-energy-efficiency topology by incorporating a full bridge with precise drive timing and control capabilities for secondary synchronous rectifiers. The ADP1055's general-purpose I/O (GPIO) can be configured for active clamp secondary energy-efficiency snubbing. Energy efficiency can be further optimized using adaptive dead-time compensation to improve efficiency across load ranges. In addition to the device's inherent low-power characteristics (<150mW), it supports programmable light-load mode operation, which helps reduce low-power standby losses in the system.
The ADP1055 transmits accurate analog and digital error signals through PMBus and configurable GPIO. This device is also ideal for analyzing system error mechanisms and reliability by providing a 'black box' function that not only records the fact of the initial error occurrence but also records the error history.
Users can utilize the GUI of the ADP1055 digital power controller to design and save configuration settings to reliable internal EEPROM memory. ADI's new digital power controller is available in a 5mm x 5mm LFCSP package, which is the optimal size for high-density, high-frequency, compact, isolated DC-DC power modules or embedded designs for networking, communications, and industrial applications operating at over 100W.
The ADP1050/51 and ADP1055 advanced digital power controller family can be used with ADI's MOSFET drivers and iCoupler® digital isolators in isolated power systems, and with the ADP1047 and ADP1048 power factor correction (PFC) digital controllers in AC-DC systems. Through the combination of these devices, system designers can more easily implement intelligent power management systems for greater energy efficiency.
