The government is making every effort to ensure a sufficient power supply for the production of advanced semiconductors.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Lee Chang-yang) held the second meeting of the 'Power Grid Innovation Task Force (TF)' on the 26th, co-chaired by Cheon Young-gil, Head of the Energy Policy Office, and Ju Young-jun, Head of the Industrial Policy Office, to explore ways to supply power in a timely manner to advanced industries, including the 'Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster' (hereinafter the Semiconductor Cluster).

At this meeting, discussions were held on measures to proactively prepare power supply plans for the semiconductor cluster.

Meeting participants agreed that securing optimal power infrastructure (power generation facilities, power grids, etc.) capable of supplying the large-scale power used by high-tech industries is of the utmost importance.

In addition, they shared the understanding that in order to construct power facilities in a timely manner, measures must be devised to identify and respond to risks, such as low social acceptance, in advance.

Cheon Young-gil, Head of the Energy Policy Office, stated, “We will prepare an optimized, customized power supply roadmap within the year, taking into account the power demand of the semiconductor cluster and nearby power grid conditions,” adding, “We will also build a system to supply power in a timely manner to other advanced industries such as secondary batteries and biotechnology.”

In addition, Joo Young-jun, Director General of Industrial Policy, stated, “The newly established semiconductor cluster is a mega-project capable of expanding our semiconductor competitiveness, which has previously been concentrated on memory, into the system semiconductor sector. Therefore, we will actively provide the necessary support for the successful progress of the cluster, such as the timely establishment of power infrastructure.” "We will continue to review it," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, the progress of the 'Springtime Grid Stabilization Measures' was also reviewed. Performance improvements for solar power inverters were prioritized, and with the active cooperation of renewable energy operators, performance improvements were completed for approximately 92% (2,549 MW) of the target volume (2,783 MW) by the end of September.

We were able to minimize output control in areas with a high concentration of solar power facilities during the spring (occurred on the 2nd), and the government plans to continue making every effort to ensure stable operation of the power grid.
