ST Launches Octal High-Side Switch

STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company supporting a wide range of electronic applications and customers, has released the IPS8160HQ and IPS8160HQ-1, 8-channel high-side switches with built-in protection and diagnostic functions in a small QFN48L package.
This unique combination of functions reduces space and increases reliability for PLC modules used to drive vending machine overloads and unidirectional motors.
In addition, it can be used in various applications that control resistive, capacitive, and inductive loads, including I/O peripherals for factory automation equipment and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines.
Both types of switches have a low on-resistance (RDS(on)) of 160 mOhm (average, 25ºC) to minimize power loss.
In addition, through OVL (Overload) and junction OVT (Over-Temperature) protection functions for each channel, it prevents circuit damage while minimizing interruptions caused by transient errors.
The overloaded channel is automatically turned off and then restarted to keep the junction and case temperatures below the maximum safety level, while the non-overloaded channel continues to operate normally.
In the event of a ground short circuit, the device is immediately turned off. In addition, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lock-out (UVLO), short-circuit protection, output current limiting, and overheating error indicator are supported.
The current limit of the IPS8160HQ is preset to 0.7A, while the current limit of the IPS8160HQ-1 is 1A. Both switches support an operating voltage range of 10.5V to 36V and are equipped with features that easily meet international standards for industrial equipment. These include IEC 61131-2 for process controllers, and IEC 61000 specifications for EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) immunity, EFT (Electrical Fast-Transient)/burst immunity, and surge immunity.
Users can quickly evaluate the driving and diagnostic functions of the IPS8160HQ and IPS8160HQ-1 using the X-NUCLEO-OUT9A1 and X-NUCLEO-OUT19A1 digital output expansion cards for STM32 Nucleo boards that can be connected to 1A industrial loads.
IPS8160HQ and IPS8160HQ-1 are currently being produced in QFN48L packages with a pitch of 8mm x 6mm x 0.9mm, and the price is $4.02 for a purchase of 1,000 units.

ST Launches 75V Drive IC Targeting 48V Industrial Motor Driving
ST Microelectronics has unveiled the 'STSPIN9P' series of 75V motor drive ICs tailored for 48V-class industrial drive system design. The new product family is characterized by half-bridge and full-bridge configurations that enable design scalability according to motor type and output conditions.
