TI Launches Power Management IC for AC/DC Power Supplies with Industry-Leading Efficiency and Lowest Standby Power Consumption

TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/ww/kr) March 20, 2014 – TI (CEO Kent Chon) announced the launch of two flyback power supply solutions for 5W to 100W AC/DC power supplies that offer the highest energy efficiency and the lowest standby power consumption in the industry. TI is further expanding its leading flyback controller portfolio by introducing the UCC28910, a flyback switcher with integrated 700V MOSFET, and the UCC28630, a high-power, Green-Mode controller. TI's flyback controller portfolio supports the entire power range of AC/DC adapters and power supply units used in personal electronic devices, printers, white goods, and smart meters.
The UCC28910 switcher, which integrates a high-voltage power MOSFET, features high density and high efficiency, consuming the lowest standby power in the industry for 5W to 10W designs. Additionally, it provides accurate maximum current across different input voltages with a minimum constant current output tolerance of 5%. The UCC28630 controller supports PSR (primary side regulation) technology to improve the reliability of 10W to 100W power supplies. TI demonstrated the UCC28910 at the APEC (Applied Power Electronics Conference and Expo) exhibition held in Fort Worth, Texas from March 17 to 19.
The UCC28910 achieves an average efficiency of 80% in a 7.5W design and 78% efficiency at 10% load. The UCC28630 achieves average efficiency of 88% or higher in 65W to 130W designs and 87% efficiency at 10% load, which is the industry-leading figure. It also exceeds EC (European Commission) standby power regulations, including the IPP 5-Star mobile charger rating, which specifies less than 30mW of power consumption at no-load standby condition, and EC Code of Conduct (Tier 1 & 2) for 5W to 10W designs (UCC28910) and 30W designs (UCC28630). These flyback solutions support PSR (primary side regulation) and do not require optocoupler feedback circuits.
The UCC28910 and UCC28630 will be available as samples starting April 2014, with mass production to follow.
