Sharing recognition of mobility and parts industry supply chain ecosystem restructuring situation

The Korea Institute of Materials Science (hereinafter referred to as Materials Research Institute) is preparing a forum for discussing awareness changes regarding the future automotive industry and practical response measures.

The Materials Research Institute announced that it will hold the 'Future e-Mobility Electrification Parts Industry Exchange Meeting' today, the 20th, at the Seminar Room in Research Building 1 of the Korea Institute of Materials Science.

Changwon has developed centered on the automotive parts industry focused on machinery manufacturing; however, the city is currently facing a crisis as the number of internal combustion engine automotive parts, approximately 30,000, is decreasing to less than 20,000, a reduction of approximately 37 percent, due to the wave of automotive industry electrification.

The Materials Research Institute stated that it prepared this exchange meeting to create an opportunity to newly transform the outdated perspective of viewing automobiles.

The analysis of the Materials Research Institute is that new opportunities in the diverse future mobility industries ahead can be found only by breaking away from mechanical-centered thinking.

To this end, at this exchange meeting, Yi Hang-gu, Director of the Automotive Convergence Technology Institute, is scheduled to present on "Electric-powered autonomous vehicle industry trends and lightweight materials linkage direction," and Kim Se-hun, former vice president of Hyundai Motor Company, is scheduled to present on "Future e-Mobility electrification direction."

Lee Jeong-hwan, President of the Materials Research Institute, stated, "We prepared this exchange meeting to find new opportunity factors for regional companies to develop in the future e-Mobility industry," and added, "We hope this discussion will help in sharing awareness of the collapse and restructuring of the global mobility and parts industry supply chain ecosystem and exploring future development directions."
