TI Launches Range Extender Capable of Improving Range by Up to 7x in Low-Power 2.4GHz Wireless Networks
TI Korea (CEO Kent Jeon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) March 25, 2014 – TI (CEO Kent Jeon) announced the release of the SimpleLink™ CC2592 range extender, which can improve RF range by up to seven times when used with TI’s 2.4GHz low-power RF solutions in ZigBee®, 802.15.4, 6LoWPAN, and Bluetooth Low Energy networks. By utilizing the first-release CC2592 and the SimpleLink ZigBee CC2538 wireless microcontroller (MCU), time-to-market for ZigBee-enabled devices can be accelerated. This combined solution features -101dBm sensitivity and +20dBm output power, which can improve the link budget by up to 17dB, thereby improving range by up to seven times. The CC2538-CC2592 evaluation kits are available for order at the TI eStore.
The CC2592, a low-cost industrial temperature solution, provides an extended RF range for various types of applications, including gateways, electric and gas meters, home and building automation, lighting, and safety and security systems. In addition, the SimpleLink CC2592 range extender is a highly integrated solution that reduces costs with fewer external BOMs and simplifies layouts, enabling the design of finished products with smaller form factors.
The SimpleLink CC2592 range extender is suitable for low and high temperature environments (-40 ° C to +125°C).It enables the design of highly reliable lighting and industrial products by operating at >° C, and allows for even more compact designs with a small form factor of a 4x4 QFN package. In addition, since fewer passive devices are required in the BOM, not only is layout easier, but finished products with a smaller form factor can be produced, and BOM costs can be reduced.
The SimpleLink CC2592 range extender is sold through authorized TI distributors at a price of $1.55 per unit in quantities of 100, and TI's sample program is available.
