March 25, 2014 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the release of a high-efficiency buck converter (product name: LTC3637) capable of providing a maximum continuous output current of 1A and an input of up to 76V. This product operates over an input voltage range of 4V to 76V and is ideal for telecommunications, industrial, aerospace, and automotive applications.
The LTC3637 utilizes a programmable peak current mode design to maximize efficiency across a wide range of output currents. It offers high efficiency of up to 90% and maximizes battery operating time with a standby current of only 12µA. The user-programmable output current limit function allows the output current to be set within a range of 100mA to 1A as required by the application.
The LTC3637 can be programmed with a fixed output voltage of 1.8V, 3.3V, or 5V, or a resistor divider can be used to set the output VIN to ~0.8V. The LTC3637 is supplied in MSOP or 3mm x 5mm DFN packages with excellent thermal performance and also provides the additional pin clearance required for high-voltage inputs. The combination of MSOP or DFN package characteristics and the advantage of using only four small external components provides a compact solution suitable for a wide range of applications.
The LTC3637 maintains output voltage regulation while using an internal 350mΩ power MOSFET that consumes only 12µA under no-load conditions. Therefore, it is ideal for always-on battery-powered applications. Thanks to the inherent converter stability, external compensation is not required, simplifying the design and minimizing the solution footprint. Additional features include a precision 0.8V +1% feedback voltage reference and internal or external soft start capabilities.
The 16-pin TSSOP versions include the LTC3637EMSE and DFN, and the LTC3637EDHC. The industrial temperature versions, LTC3637IMSE and LTC3637IDHC, have been tested and guaranteed to operate at junction temperatures ranging from -40°C to 125°C. The automotive temperature versions, LTC3637HMSE and LTC3637HDHC, have been tested and guaranteed to operate at junction temperatures ranging from 40°C to 150°C. Finally, the high-reliability versions, LTC3637MPMSE and LTC3637MPDHC, have been tested and guaranteed to operate at junction temperatures ranging from -55°C to 150°C. All versions are available immediately.
