Freescale Simplifies SDN Implementation with Latest OpenFlow™ Compatible Software Integrated into QorIQ Multicore Processors

March 27, 2014, Seoul, Korea – Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE: FSL, Country Manager for Korea Yeon-Ho Hwang), a leader in the era of Software Defined Networking (SDN), announced a new VortiQa SDN solution including VortiQa ON (Open Network) Director and Switch software optimized to run on current and next-generation Freescale QorIQ multicore communications processors.
This comprehensive software comes with pre-integrated, commercial-grade OpenFlow-compatible data plane software to enable OEMs and ODMs to quickly begin designing optimized, high-performance SDN system-level solutions. This software is designed to help QorIQ customers shorten design cycles and improve network management efficiency, while contributing to network operators reducing OPEX and CAPEX.

VortiQa SDN solutions form the fundamental building blocks in the design of SDN/OpenFlow compatible customer and enterprise network equipment, such as security routers and gateways based on Freescale communications processors. They also offer advantages for networking solutions for data centers and cloud deployments, including private, public, and hybrid clouds.
The VortiQa SDN solution is compatible with the OpenFlow 1.3.X open standard and can be extended to support Layer 4 and higher protocols. In addition to dedicated data plane software, the solution includes an embedded SDN controller implemented in C, suitable for compact embedded designs, and is supported by various applications, including Linux® IPsec. To improve customer time-to-market, the VortiQa SDN solution is optimized and validated on Freescale processors prior to delivery, and commercial-level support and services are provided.

VortiQa ON (Open Network) Director and Switch software is compatible with current-generation QorIQ processors, and support for future QorIQ platforms based on the core-independent, software-aware Layerscape architecture is also planned.
