March 25, 2014, Seoul - Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Lee Seung-soo) announced that it is adding new OptiMOS™ FD series 200V and 250V products to its mid-voltage product portfolio. These new-generation power MOSFET products feature an optimized body diode for hard commutation (voltage and current overlap/transition intervals), providing enhanced device robustness, reducing voltage overshoot, and decreasing reverse recovery losses. This enables hard-switching applications such as telecommunications systems, industrial power supplies, Class D audio amplifiers, motor control (48V~110V systems), and DC/AC inverters to achieve very high system reliability.

The OptiMOS FD series is optimized to meet extremely high performance standards for reverse recovery charge (Qrr) characteristics. OptiMOS FD 200V and 250V products reduce Qrr by approximately 40 percent compared to standard OptiMOS 200V and 250V. This reduces voltage overshoot and minimizes the need for snubber circuits, thereby achieving enhanced system reliability.

Richard Kuncic, Senior Director of the DC/DC Systems division at Infineon Technologies, stated, "Infineon is setting new industry standards once again with 200V and 250V voltage products and staying one step ahead. Through the OptiMOS FD series, we are successfully improving switching performance. These new-generation power MOSFETs enable customers to save engineering costs and reduce working time, particularly in hard-switching applications."

The new OptiMOS FD series achieves enhanced hard commutation robustness, allowing it to operate under more severe conditions such as higher dv/dt, di/dt, and current density compared to existing 200V and 250V products currently available in the market. This makes it more user-friendly and simplifies design work.

Furthermore, the OptiMOS FD series achieves the highest efficiency and power density in the industry by reducing on-state resistance (RDS(on)) by 45 percent and Figure of Merit (FOM) by 65 percent compared to competing products.

The OptiMOS FD 200V series includes D2PAK (RDS(on) = 11.7mOhm) and TO-220 (RDS(on) = 12mOhm) products. OptiMOS FD 250V is offered in TO-220 (RDS(on) = 22mOhm), and samples of all products are currently available.
