The Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI, President Kim Nam-kyun) has joined hands with Chung-Ang University (President Park Sang-kyu) for joint research and the training of specialized science and technology personnel.

The Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute signed an MOU with Chung-Ang University on the 5th to promote academic-research exchange in the field of science and technology.

Under this agreement, the two institutions will cooperate in the following areas: securing challenging research projects through joint research and jointly utilizing infrastructure; conducting convergence research projects and exchanging research personnel; exchanging information related to research and education; providing field training and educational opportunities to foster science and technology professionals; jointly supervising theses for master's and doctoral students and producing excellent research results; and establishing a global research network (inviting excellent researchers from abroad, holding international joint workshops, etc.).

Chung-Ang University is transforming into a research-focused university by recently securing numerous government-funded projects in advanced electrical technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, carbon neutrality, and healthcare. Through an agreement with KERI, the only specialized electrical research institute in Korea, the plan is to focus on developing technologies to lead the era of 'electrification' as well as fostering future talent.

In particular, as KERI has recently been achieving outstanding results in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) with the University of Waterloo in Canada, good synergy effects can be expected with Chung-Ang University, which is committed to AI education and research and development.

KERI President Kim Nam-kyun stated, “We will achieve significant results through cooperation with Chung-Ang University, which has an excellent faculty and many promising talents, and become a model for the revitalization of domestic academic-research exchanges, thereby contributing to making Korea a leading nation in electrification.”

Park Sang-kyu, President of Chung-Ang University, said, “To lead the future era of electrification, we must concentrate our research capabilities on renewable energy, secondary batteries, and power semiconductors, and pursue innovation through ICT convergence,” adding, “I look forward to the two institutions closely cooperating to become representative institutions leading the development of science and technology in our country.”

Meanwhile, KERI is a government-funded research institute under the National Science and Technology Research Council of the Ministry of Science and ICT.
