The Ministry of Science and ICT inspected the G 28GHz-based digital infrastructure service for the Saemangeum Jamboree Festival.

Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho visited the Saemangeum Jamboree site in Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do on the 28th to inspect the status of digital infrastructure and service support to ensure the successful hosting of the '2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree', which will be held from August 1st to 12th.

This visit is to directly confirm the on-site application of digital support measures that the Ministry of Science and ICT has been promoting, following the Saemangeum World Jamboree Communication Failure Prevention and Preparedness Status Inspection Meeting held on Friday the 21st.

For this event, we focused on digital infrastructure and digital services, including WiFi utilizing 5G 28GHz base stations and CCTV with intelligent technology.

The World Scout Jamboree is a camping festival for youth from around the world held every four years. The Saemangeum World Jamboree, being held this year, will be attended by approximately 43,000 youth from 158 countries.

Digital services that young people can experience will be prepared at the Saemangeum Metaverse Experience Center, where they can enjoy XR and metaverse content, and the Mobile Astronomy Science Center, which provides science programs such as telescopes and solar observation cards.

Minister Lee Jong-ho emphasized, “The Saemangeum Metaverse Experience Center is a place where you can see and touch Korea’s latest digital content with all five senses,” and “We must provide diverse experiential services so that the youth who visit the Saemangeum Jamboree can dream of their future and remember Korea’s digital future.”

We also inspected the current status of digital infrastructure at Jamboree Park, including the current status of facilities and safety measures. We also visited the CCTV control center, which utilizes AI-based intelligent technology, and conducted a mock demonstration of automatic detection of incidents such as fires and trespassing into restricted areas during the event.

At the Global Leader Center, a complex facility that houses the Jamberry Hospital and a comprehensive situation room, the operation of autonomous robots for indoor quarantine and refreshment serving was inspected.

Through a WiFi demonstration utilizing a 5G 28GHz base station, we directly tested the WiFi speed to ensure stable communication services even in crowded environments.

Minister Lee Jong-ho stated, “During the Jamboree, we will actively support the use of digital technologies in cooperation with the organizing committee until the end of the event so that many young people can experience and return home with our country’s cutting-edge digital technology.”
