STMicroelectronics MEMS sensor adopted in advanced activity tracker by wearable solution design firm Maxwell Guidor Technologies
April 10, 2014, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company contributing to customers across a wide range of electronic applications and a leading supplier of MEMS devices for consumer and portable applications, announced that its LSM330 6-axis inertial module and LIS3DSH 3-axis accelerometer have been selected as the foundation for a low-power motion-sensing activity tracker for all ages and lifestyles by Maxwell Guider Technology, an innovative wearable solutions company based in Taiwan.
Morgan Yang, CEO of Maxwell Guider Technologies, stated, “Simple activity tracking is not enough for customers pursuing a smart mobile lifestyle, and wearable devices that are merely bulky, boring, and not smart are not welcome in the market.” He added, “What customers want is a wearable device smart enough to automatically recognize whether users are swimming, playing soccer, dancing, or doing yoga. The LIS3DSH 3-axis accelerometer and LSM330 6-axis inertial module incorporate a finite-state machine (FSM), a programmable block capable of custom motion recognition. With these two chips, Maxwell Guidor Technologies can develop smaller and more accurate activity trackers with low-power capabilities and realistic motion analysis for applications such as digital consumer, healthcare/fitness, gaming, pet tracking, as well as wearable sensing, indoor/outdoor navigation, augmented reality, and other location-based services.
Maxwell Guider is focusing on rapidly changing wearable market applications, which are expected to reach $10 billion within the next two years.
