April 14, 2014, Seoul — Infineon Technologies (Korea CEO Seung-soo Lee) announced OPTIGA™ Trust P, a programmable hardware-based solution that enhances the security of electronic devices in connected systems. OPTIGA Trust P, a new addition to the OPTIGA Trust family, provides robust electronic device authentication and protects computing systems from intentional attacks as well as accidental damage caused by user error, while also enhancing the security and privacy of stored data.

Allowing connections only to known and legitimate devices is a key element of all system security, and its importance is growing as more and more connected devices are used by enterprises and consumers. By integrating OPTIGA Trust P into their designs, electronics manufacturers can add secure security to embedded systems.

OPTIGA Trust P generates and securely stores encryption keys for unidirectional and mutual authentication, thereby protecting devices from malware and controlling access mechanisms for secure software updates. As a programmable solution, OPTIGA Trust P is highly flexible and can be used in various types of connected systems. Any product that stores and exchanges confidential data, such as smart homes or factories, can securely protect information by utilizing OPTIGA Trust P's encrypted communication capabilities. This feature protects against attempts by attackers to collect personal or corporate data without authorization and against attempts at manipulation through Internet connections or machine-to-machine (M2M) communication links using programming.

OPTIGA Trust P has obtained Common Criteria (CC) EAL 5+ (the highest rating), an international evaluation standard for addressing forgery, privacy, and security issues. This product utilizes public-key cryptography to support both one-way and mutual authentication for anti-replication applications. On-board key generation, key storage, and secure key exchange create secure communication channels and encryption for transmitted data. This provides data privacy as well as information verification between the sender and receiver. Built-in key management and access control extend the use of secure channels, including protection, by allowing secure remote updates and restricting local access to the device.

OPTIGA Trust P is a highly flexible programmable device that can be easily integrated into existing systems. It includes a JavaCard operating system that runs security applets configurable to the specific needs of the system. To minimize development effort, Infineon provides standard JavaCard security applets, host code, and development tools for most common functions.
