STMicroelectronics Announces Additional Set of Middleware for STM32Cube Development Platform to Support STM32 F2 Microcontrollers

April 24, 2014, Seoul — STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company contributing to customers across a wide range of electronic applications, has released an additional set of middleware for the STM32Cube™ development platform announced last February. This is expected to make development for the STM32 F2 120MHz ARM® Cortex®-M3 microcontroller easier. STM32Cube is now available for the STM32 F2 and F4 series, and ST plans to continue releasing it later this year to expand support for all STM32 devices.
This new middleware provides a ready-to-use library by combining general Low-Level Drivers (LLDs) with the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) of the STM32 Cube platform. This library consists of automatically updated software components that simplify application development and eliminate version and dependency issues. The HAL enhances code portability, helping developers select the best STM32 device for each application.
The 'STM32CubeMX' graphical configuration tool complements the new STM32 F2 middleware by enabling developers to quickly generate application initialization code. Wizards support pin, clock, and resource allocation to avoid collisions, and in doing so, the STM32CubeMX tool generates code for widely used independent development tools.
To ensure maximum accessibility and ease of use, STM32Cube is provided for free and maximizes user-friendly licensing by allowing the use of open source software or software provided and supported by ST. It also includes over 150 use examples for STM32 evaluation.
