TI Implements Bluetooth® Smart Technology for Smartphone and Wire Replacement Applications in Automotive
TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) April 29, 2014 – TI (CEO Kent Chon) announced the release of the CC2541-Q1, a product that highly integrates a wireless microcontroller (MCU), SimpleLink™, and Bluetooth® Low Energy. This product enables emerging connectivity features in automobiles, such as smartphone control and wire-replacement applications, to be implemented with low power, low cost, and a simplified design. The CC2541-Q1 builds upon the success of TI’s general-purpose Bluetooth Smart solution (SimpleLink CC2541), the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/GNSS combo product for automotive connectivity (WiLink™ 8Q), and the dual-mode Bluetooth product (BL6450Q).
The CC2541-Q1 targets the emerging market for new automotive technologies utilizing 'Bluetooth Smart'. Through this 'Bluetooth Smart' technology, users can obtain information and control automotive systems more conveniently. The new key features are as follows:
● Smartphone control application:
● Keyless entry using a 'Bluetooth Smart Ready' smartphone or 'Bluetooth Smart' key fob – standalone or combined with TI's advanced car access solutions
● Lighting control for ambient lighting, cluster lighting, programmable LED lighting, etc.
● Diagnostic information to help users understand engine warning lights
● A service utilizing iBeacon technology for rapid identification and convenient integration with in-vehicle 'Bluetooth Smart' technology
● Wire replacement (*Can reduce weight and cost, which leads to improved fuel efficiency):
● Wireless infotainment control using the steering wheel
● Low data rate system used for control, personalized settings, alerts via smartphone, etc.
● 'Bluetooth Smart' remote control of the rear seat entertainment system
SimpleLink CC2541-Q1 is based on TI's market-leading CC2541 product, which is adopted in various types of applications worldwide, including consumer, industrial, medical, and home applications. The CC2541-Q1 provides a comprehensive solution that includes sample applications such as TI's BLE Stack™ software and support for “OTA (Over-The-Air)” downloads for field updates.
