Korea Electric Power Research Institute and Sweden Research Institute Join Hands in Science and Technology Cooperation

The Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) will promote joint research with the Swedish state-run research institute, focusing on national strategic technologies such as power semiconductors and secondary batteries.
The Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden AB), a state-run research institute in Sweden, to promote joint research focused on national strategic technologies. The event took place on the 15th at RISE in Stockholm, Sweden.
RISE is Europe's largest research institute, established by the Swedish government through the integration of over 30 private and public research institutes and over 130 government-designated testing institutions. It employs 3,500 people. Recently, we have been expanding our cooperation with Korea by signing agreements with the Korea Automotive Technology Research Institute, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Evaluation and Planning, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Korea Automotive Research Institute, and Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Equipment Research Institute.
This MoU with KERI was established to promote various forms of cooperation, including joint research, hosting lectures and workshops, and exchanging personnel and information, in national strategic science and technology fields such as power semiconductors and secondary batteries.
In particular, RISE has been conducting leading research in the field of silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors and has a wealth of commercialization experience with global companies in the same field, so it is expected to have significant synergy effects with KERI.
KERI President Kim Nam-gyun said, “I have been frequently exposed to RISE since my days as a practicing researcher and have been impressed by their high level of technological prowess,” and added, “I will work to ensure that this MoU signing becomes a model case for science and technology cooperation between Korea and Sweden.”
Meanwhile, KERI is a government-funded research institute under the National Research Council of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Ecolab Expands AI Data Center Cooling Business Through Acquisition of CoolIT
Ecolab has agreed to acquire CoolIT Systems, a liquid cooling company for AI data centers, for approximately $4.75 billion. The transaction is expected to close by Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. CoolIT has been supplying direct-to-chip cooling-based coolant distribution units, cold plates, and manifolds, serving hyperscale data centers and colocation operators as customers. This acquisition is a measure to address the high-heat and high-density server environments created by AI proliferation. Ecolab plans to combine its water management and digital monitoring capabilities with CoolIT's hardware technology to expand its data center cooling business.
