TI Introduces App Center and Provides Simplified User Interface and Intelligent Learning Tools in Latest Code Composer Studio™ IDE v6
TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) April 30, 2014 – TI (CEO Kent Chon), continuously striving to facilitate software development and reduce associated costs, announced the release of Version 6, the latest edition of its Integrated Development Environment (IDE), Code Composer Studio™. Code Composer Studio v6 is based on the latest version of the widely used industry-standard open-source Eclipse software framework and includes numerous updates, features, and tools to support software development tasks. Running on both Windows and Linux operating systems, Code Composer Studio v6 offers a variety of licensing options and provides several free options to help reduce the initial costs of embedded design. Code Composer Studio v6 is compatible with TI's diverse portfolio of embedded processing components, including microcontrollers (MCUs), ARM-based processors, and digital signal processors (DSPs).
Code Composer Studio IDE v6 includes several new features for ease of use and reduced development time.
An "App Center" is provided, allowing access to the latest features and additional TI software packages at no extra cost. Developers can install only the features required for their development work and flexibly add other applications as needed. Available software packages include TI-RTOS, MSP430Ware™, C2000™ controlSUITE™, TivaWare™, GUI Composer, and the C compiler for the Sitara™ AM335x PRU (Programmable Real-Time Unit). A new “Simple mode” has been introduced, which reduces the user interface to only essential functions, allowing new developers to familiarize themselves with the development environment more quickly before utilizing additional features. Additionally, tools such as the Optimizer Assistant and Ultra-Low Power Advisor can be used to optimize performance, code size, and power consumption.
Code Composer Studio v6 enables the use of existing GCC code. Code Composer Studio integrates not only a highly optimized C compiler but also GCC distributions for MSP430 MCUs and ARM. This allows developers to conveniently utilize their existing GCC source code when adopting TI platforms. Furthermore, by leveraging the latest version of Eclipse, it ensures compatibility with modern products and improves ease of use. Over 1,200 third-party plugins support product development through features such as static code analysis, source code management, development modeling, and scripting. Developers can utilize over 1,000 new features added within the Eclipse environment.
Code Composer Studio v6 enables the use of Energia, a new integrated open-source software framework. Energia provides easy-to-understand APIs, abstract and intuitive libraries, and an active community. All of these features of Energia allow engineers, creators, and students to conveniently develop MCU-based projects and applications. Users can then switch from the Innergear development environment to the feature-rich Code Composer Studio IDE to debug code and utilize various TI software packages.
The editor and code development environment of Code Composer Studio v6, which provides features such as autocomplete, code folding, source change history management, markers, and code-to-task linkage, reduces development time. In addition, when each core requires a separate debugger in multi-core systems such as TI's Keystone processors, the status and information of each core can be conveniently managed, and common tasks such as code verification and profiling can be automated using the debug server scripting interface.
