TI launches next-generation LED driver products for automotive front and rear lamps to improve external lamp reliability and flexibility
TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/ww/kr) May 19, 2014 – TI (CEO Kent Chon) has launched the industry's first 2-channel switching LED driver for automotive front lamps and the industry's only linear LED driver for rear lamps with single LED short detection capability. The TPS92630-Q1 and TPS92602-Q1, unlike existing LED drivers already on the market, provide both high-side current sense dimming and PWM (pulse width modulation) dimming functions. Additionally, they integrate comprehensive diagnostic programs and thermal management functions, enabling developers to flexibly design lamp systems compliant with different traffic regulations in various countries. These devices are suitable for automotive LED front lamps, rear lamps, and interior lighting.
The TPS92630-Q1 for automotive rear lamps features the industry's only single LED short detection capability, integrating comprehensive diagnostic functions that allow developers to design flexibly according to different countries' traffic regulations. Additionally, up to 15 ICs can be connected on a single bus, and simple control logic is possible without an additional microcontroller, enabling more efficient board space and cost savings compared to existing products. Using a programmable threshold thermal current fold-back prevents LED flickering during thermal shutdown.
The TPS92602-Q1 for automotive front lamps is the industry's first 2-channel switching LED driver in which each channel can support multiple topologies including buck, boost, buck-boost, SEPIC, and flyback, reducing board space and cost. It supports linear analog dimming with high-side current detection and PWM dimming through high-side PMOS FET, enabling customers with simple and robust design. Additionally, it transmits normal and fault information to the body control module for flexible control. The device also switches between constant current mode and constant voltage mode for LED open protection. When the LED opens, the TPS92602-Q1 switches to constant voltage mode, and automatically recovers to constant current mode when the LED open condition ends.
