TI Expands Clock and Timing Product Families with Addition of 14GHz Fractional-N PLL Product Offering Industry-Leading Noise Performance

TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) June 9, 2014 – TI (CEO Kent Chon) announced the launch of the LMX2492, a 14GHz fractional-N PLLatinum® phased-locked loop (PLL) product that delivers the industry's best performance using advanced frequency modulation. The LMX2492 achieves enhanced radio frequency (RF) sensitivity, radar range, and accuracy by providing noise performance that is more than 6dB better than similar competitors. It also supports a 200MHz phase frequency detector and a 5V charge pump supply, and features a wide operating frequency range of 500MHz to 14GHz. Available in industrial and automotive grades (Class 1), this product is suitable for military and automotive radar, microwave backhaul, communications, test, and instrumentation applications.
The LMX2492 is a new addition to TI’s comprehensive high-performance clock and timing product portfolio, delivering the highest performance in the industry. Additionally, TI’s clock and timing portfolio is supported by the latest WEBENCH® clock architecture, enabling faster time-to-market.
The LMX2492 enables enhanced RF sensitivity with the industry's best phase noise performance. It provides a low-noise local oscillator to the RF front end with a phase detector frequency of 200 MHz and low PLL phase noise of -227 dBc/Hz, thereby enabling enhanced receiver sensitivity. In addition, enhanced radar accuracy can be achieved through advanced frequency modulation. Flexible frequency and phase modulation, including frequency shift keying (FSK), phase shift keying (PSK), and configurable piecewise linear FM modulation, improves radar detection range, accuracy, and immunity to interference. The LMX2492 is a highly integrated product that can shorten time-to-market by reducing the number of external components and simplifying system complexity through the integration of a flexible fractional-N engine, a 5V charge pump supply, and a low-noise, high-precision low dropout regulator (LDO).
By providing an enhanced local oscillator, the LMX2492 improves receiver sensitivity and transmitter spectral purity when operated with the LMK04828, the industry's best-performing clock jitter cleaner, or the LMK03806, a low-jitter and multi-rate clock generator.
Engineers can reduce design time using the LMX2492 by utilizing TI’s WEBENCH® Clock Architect. As the industry’s first clock and timing design tool, it proposes suitable system clock tree solutions based on a database of various products and enables simulation. The tool supports PLL loop filter design and simulates phase noise and jitter to optimize solutions for specific applications.
Through the LMX2492EVM evaluation module, developers can quickly and easily evaluate the functionality and versatility of this product.
