May 29, 2014 – Linear Technology Corporation announces the LTM8057 and LTM8058, two 1.5W output µModule® (micromodule) DC/DC converters with 2kVAC galvanic isolation (production tested at 3kVDC) in a 9mm x 11.25mm x 4.92mm BGA (ball grid array) package. The LTM8057 and LTM8058 include an isolated transformer, control circuitry, power switches, and small input and output capacitors. The µModule converters are UL60950 recognized, file number 464570. Both products operate over an input voltage range of 3.1V to 31V and provide a regulated output voltage on the secondary side, adjustable from 2.5V to 12V (LTM8057) and 1.2V to 12V (LTM8058). The LTM8058 includes a low noise linear post regulator that reduces output ripple to only 20µVRMS at 300mA. It supports up to 250V operating voltage in a degree 2* pollution environment with creepage and clearance, and can be used in test equipment, servers, industrial automation, control and servo systems where ground separation is required.

The LTM8057 maintains ±5% output voltage regulation accuracy over the –40ºC to +125ºC range. The LTM8058’s linear post regulator improves output voltage regulation to ±2.5% over the same temperature range. Additionally, the post regulator provides the advantage of low ripple noise, improving the performance of high-precision mixed-signal converters and precision operational amplifiers. The high conversion efficiency and sophisticated package design of the DC/DC support maximum output power up to 110°C ambient temperature conditions.

The LTM8057 and LTM8058 are available in three temperature grades. The operating junction temperature range for the E and I grades is –40°C to +125°C, and for the MP grade, –55°C to +125°C. All versions are available from stock.

*The pollution level is a classification criterion based on the amount of dry contamination and compression that occurs in the environment. This classification criterion is important because it affects the parameters necessary to ensure the safe operation of the product. Pollution level 2 means an environment where non-compressible contamination or short-term compression occurs, such as an office, laboratory, or test room.
