Rolls-Royce's Trent XWB family of engines has received additional orders, increasing the total order volume to 130 units.

Rolls-Royce announced on the 20th that Emirates has ordered 15 A350-900 aircraft equipped with its Trent XWB-84 engines.

With this, the total order volume for the Trent XWB product family has increased to 130 units, and deliveries of this order are scheduled to begin in 2025.

This order reaffirms Emirates’ confidence in the successful combination of aircraft and engines that has set new industry standards for efficiency and reliability. Emirates will operate this additional order following its existing fleet of 132 Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines.

“This announcement reaffirms the reliability of the Trent XWB engine’s performance in supporting the expansion of our customers’ operations,” said Rob Watson, President of Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace. “The Trent XWB, the world’s most efficient large aircraft engine currently in service, is the ideal platform to support Emirates as it continues to expand its routes through proven reliability and versatility,” Rolls-Royce stated. “Rolls-Royce looks forward to continuing the valuable partnership between the two companies that began in 1996 when Emirates selected the Trent as its power source.”

The Trent XWB, the world's most efficient large aircraft engine currently in service, has already been ordered or is in operation by more than 56 customers.

The Trent XWB is a reliable multi-functional engine that has already proven its power efficiency in both short and long-haul flights, making it an ideal solution, particularly for passenger and cargo aircraft operators running diverse routes.

The Trent XWB, with approximately 15% improved fuel efficiency compared to the first-generation Trent engine, enables longer flights on less fuel and offers excellent performance and low noise levels. In addition, it has obtained certification to run on a 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend and has been proven to be compatible with 100% SAF in the future.
