Our country's digital competitiveness rose two levels from the previous year to rank 6th.

The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-ho) announced that in the 2023 Global Digital Competitiveness Evaluation published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, Korea ranked 6th out of 64 countries evaluated, rising two levels from the previous year.

Since 2017, IMD has been evaluating and announcing the digital competitiveness of each country by measuring 54 sub-indicators in three areas, nine sectors, and three domains, including future readiness, technology, and knowledge, in relation to adaptability to digital technologies.

By country, the United States, which ranked second last year, took first place, while Denmark, which ranked first last year, took fourth. In the Asia-Pacific region, Singapore ranked third, China 19th, and Japan 32nd. Korea ranked 6th overall, and 2nd among 27 countries with a population of 20 million or more, after the United States.

Looking at it by sector, the rankings in all three sectors of future readiness, technology, and knowledge rose compared to last year, ranking 1st out of 64 countries in the future readiness sector (2nd → 1st), 12th in the technology sector (13th → 12th), and 10th in the knowledge sector (16th → 10th).

In the future preparedness category, the ranking rose in indicators such as attitude toward globalization (11th → 7th), which indicates social awareness of globalization, utilization of big data and analysis technology (34th → 31st), and public-private partnership (46th → 40th).

The technology sector saw its ranking rise in indicators such as intellectual property rights (37th → 28th), national credit rating (17th → 16th), communications technology (12th → 11th), and mobile broadband subscribers (15th → 12th).

Meanwhile, in the knowledge sector, the rankings rose in areas such as international experience of talent (from 59th to 51st), employee training (from 34th to 23rd), and robots in education and research and development (from 7th to 4th).
