SEMI and the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) are now actively moving forward with accelerating low-carbon initiatives in the Asia region.


SEMI announced on the 6th that it has established the Semiconductor Climate Consortium Energy Collaborative (SCC-EC) to identify and resolve issues related to low-carbon energy source deployment in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to recent analysis by McKinsey & Company, a partner of the Semiconductor Climate Consortium Energy Collaborative, despite strengthened decarbonization plans by major semiconductor companies, emissions levels required by the Paris Agreement in 2016 are not being reached.

Dr. Bae Young-cheol, a board member of the Semiconductor Climate Consortium and Global Director-General of DuPont, stated, "One of the key response areas identified by the Semiconductor Climate Consortium is the shortage of low-carbon energy plans and ongoing projects in the Asia-Pacific region. Accordingly, the Semiconductor Climate Consortium Energy Collaborative will support the acceleration of low-carbon energy activities in the Asia-Pacific region."

Ajit Manocha, CEO of SEMI, said, "Achieving carbon emission reduction targets requires a new approach different from conventional methods, and accordingly, the Semiconductor Climate Consortium Energy Collaborative aims to accelerate project speed and scale expansion from a new perspective."

Meanwhile, the Semiconductor Climate Consortium Energy Collaborative is pursuing net-zero projects with sponsorship from △Google △Lam Research △Macquarie Group △Samsung Electronics △Applied Materials △AMD △ASML △ASE △JSR △TotalEnergies △TSMC.
