Turkish Airlines, the national airline of Turkey, has rapidly emerged as the largest operator of Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.

Rolls-Royce recently announced that Turkish Airlines has ordered 40 Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines and 100 Trent XWB-84 engines. With this, Turkish Airlines becomes the airline operating the largest number of Trent XWB engines in the world.

From 2055 to 2033, A350-900s equipped with Trent XWB-84, A350-1000s equipped with Trent XWB-97, and A350Fs equipped with Trent XWB-97 are scheduled to be delivered to Turkish Airlines. Engine condition and maintenance will be managed through Rolls-Royce's comprehensive TotalCare service.

Turkish Airlines operates more than 340 routes across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, and its passenger base has grown from 10 million in 2003 to over 82 million in the past 12 months.

Turkish Airlines plans to supplement its existing fleet with this large-scale additional order, following the 40 A350-900s powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84s and 26 A330s powered by Trent 700s that are already in service or on order.

Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic stated, “This announcement will be recorded as a very important milestone in Rolls-Royce’s history. It demonstrates that Rolls-Royce’s innovative measures to move forward as a highly performing and competitive company based on profitability-driven growth are paying off.” He added, “The Trent XWB is the perfect engine platform to support the continuously growing Turkish Airlines. With this order, Turkish Airlines will become the world’s largest operator of the Trent XWB and expresses its gratitude for the trust placed in Rolls-Royce.”

The Trent XWB, the world's most efficient large aircraft engine currently in service, will be assembled in Derby, UK, to support Turkish Airlines in achieving its sustainability journey more quickly.

The Trent XWB offers approximately 15% better fuel efficiency than the first-generation Trent engine, enabling longer flights on less fuel, and provides excellent performance and low noise levels.

In addition, it has obtained operational certification for a 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend, and compatibility with future 100% SAF has also been verified.
