STMicroelectronics Launches Automotive Accelerometer for Automatic Emergency Call Support

June 25, 2014, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company serving customers across a wide range of electronic applications and the world's No. 1 supplier of accelerometer sensors, has added another "world's first" chip to its motion sensor portfolio. The newly released AIS3624DQ is a 3-axis accelerometer with digital output that provides a full-scale range of up to +/-24g (gravitational acceleration) for the first time and meets the automotive industry's stringent AEC-Q100 stability stress tests.
Automobile manufacturers are developing important applications that automatically request emergency services in the event of a collision or vehicle problem. These applications can transmit life-saving details, such as the vehicle's location and the severity of the problem or accident, to emergency service operators. Representative examples of such services include Onstar in the United States, eCall in Europe, and ERA GLONASS in Russia.

One of the key factors in evaluating collision intensity is deceleration occurring in all three dimensions at the moment of impact. For example, the ERA GLONASS specifications used in the Russian market must be able to accurately measure longitudinal acceleration of up to +/-24g. The AIS3624DQ is a product that brings all the advantages of market-proven ST stacked chip technology to the automotive market.
ST's solution is based on the 8-inch MEMS product process and provides a more competitive solution compared to products from other companies producing 6-inch products.
