The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is pursuing a strategy to foster the next-generation robot industry from 2024 to 2028.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on Tuesday the 16th that it had finalized the 4th Basic Plan for Intelligent Robots ('24-'28) through the Robot Industry Policy Deliberation Council. This plan, established and implemented by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy every five years pursuant to the "Act on Promotion of Intelligent Robot Development and Distribution," is a concrete implementation plan for implementing the "Advanced Robot Industry Vision and Strategy" announced last December.

While the existing 3rd Basic Plan focused on the development and distribution of robot-based standard process models, the 4th Basic Plan for Intelligent Robots will invest over 3 trillion won in public-private partnerships by 2030 to promote new businesses utilizing robots.

First, we will increase the domestic production rate of core robot components to 80% by 2030. We will establish a robust technology acquisition system and encourage participation from robot demand companies to quickly commercialize core technologies.

To secure over 15,000 core robotics personnel for the development process, we will nurture specialized personnel through the establishment of robotics convergence courses and support for industry-academia projects centered around robotics graduate schools. We will establish an additional robot training center (currently one in Gumi).

Additionally, the goal is to deploy 1 million advanced robots by 2030. The plan is to improve 51 regulations necessary to facilitate the deployment of advanced robots and support the necessary demonstration and deployment efforts.

The government plans to expand intergovernmental cooperation channels and actively support promotion, networking, and overseas certification to help robotics companies advance into overseas markets based on their experience in the domestic market.

To ensure coexistence with robots, we are also pursuing the establishment of a robot-friendly infrastructure. Robot ethics guidelines will be established to ensure the proper development and use of robots. We also plan to invest approximately 200 billion won to establish a "National Robot Test Field" to ensure that robots in the development stage undergo safety and reliability verification and are quickly commercialized.

The government stated, "We will strongly promote public-private cooperation to realize the K-robot economy, which will transform our industries and daily lives and drive economic innovation."
