Microchip Launches Low-Cost PIC32MX1/2 Series with High-Capacity Flash and Built-in RAM

Seoul, July 3, 2014 – Microchip Technology (Korea Representative: Byung-Don Han), a global leader in microcontrollers, analog semiconductors, and flash-IP solutions, announced the launch of the new PIC32MX1/2 microcontroller (MCU) family with 256/64 KB flash/RAM. Combined with Microchip’s extensive software and tools, the new MCU family supports the design of applications such as Bluetooth® digital audio, USB audio, graphics, touch sensing, and general-purpose embedded control.
The newly released MCU is an addition to the popular PIC32MX1/2 series of 32-bit microcontrollers with a low cost and small footprint, providing support for various peripherals at a low cost through increased flash capacity and RAM options. The PIC32MX1/2 includes various features such as: I2S for digital audio; a large memory configuration and 83 DMIPS performance for Bluetooth audio and advanced control applications; a CTMU for capacitive touch sensing; an 8-bit PMP for graphics or external memory; a 13-channel ADC with 10-bit 1 Msps; and serial communication peripherals on the PIC32MX2 series that support USB device/host/OTG functions.
In addition to hardware support for peripheral functions, Microchip’s new MPLAB® Harmony software development framework accelerates development cycles by integrating Microchip’s licensing, resale, and support with middleware, drivers, libraries, and RTOS from partner developers. In particular, readily available software packages from Microchip, such as the Bluetooth audio development suite, audio equalizer filter library, various decoders including AAC, MP3, and SBC, sample rate conversion library, USB stack, graphics, and touch library, dramatically shorten the development time for applications including Bluetooth digital audio, consumer, industrial, and general-purpose embedded controls.
The PIC32MX1/2 MCU was developed for low-cost consumer applications, such as Bluetooth speakers, consumer music player docks, noise-canceling headsets, infotainment systems, clock radios, and soundbars for entertainment systems, as well as for touchscreens with buttons and sliders and USB device/host/OTG applications. Additionally, medical and industrial applications include industrial-grade noise-canceling headsets and medical/industrial displays with touch-sensing capabilities.
