Microchip Launches Zero-Drift Instrumentation Amplifier for Low Power and High Precision with Self-Calibrating Architecture

Seoul, July 15, 2014 – Microchip Technology (Korea Representative: Byung-Don Han), a global leader in microcontrollers, analog semiconductors, and Flash-IP solutions, announced the launch of the new Zero-Drift MCP6N16, expanding its portfolio of instrumentation amplifier products. This new self-compensating architecture maximizes DC performance through ultra-low offset voltage and drift, as well as superior common-mode and Power-Supply Rejection (PSR) capabilities, while eliminating the effects of 1/f noise. This enables high accuracy for time and temperature.
The MCP6N16's low-power CMOS process technology provides a bandwidth of 500 kHz while reducing power consumption, and includes hardware enable pins to enhance power efficiency. Due to these low-power operation and shutdown functions, less current is consumed to achieve the given speed and performance, resulting in extended battery life and reduced heat generation. Additionally, the new product operates at a low voltage of 1.8V, allowing it to supply power beyond general use with a 1.5V battery consisting of two batteries. It also features Rail-to-Rail Input and Output (RRIO) functionality, enabling use across the entire range even in low-voltage environments. As a result, it delivers improved performance across the entire operating voltage range.
The MCP6N16 instrumentation amplifier is suitable for applications requiring a combination of high performance, high precision, low power consumption, and low-voltage operation. Examples include sensor interfaces, signal conditioning, and fixed and mobile measuring instruments for medical, consumer electronics, and industrial markets.
