CSR Accelerates Expansion of SiRFstarIV Technology to Target Automotive Market with Automotive-Certified Triple Connectivity
By integrating CSR8311 Bluetooth and CSR6000 Wi-Fi into the GSD4e-9500 GPS engine, we provide the industry's highest-performance location and connectivity platform solution for automotive consumers.
June 16, 2011 – CSR today announced the SiRFstarIV GSD4e-9500 GPS engine, the industry's first to receive rigorous automotive electronics certification, to strengthen its leading position in the automotive market. The SiRFstarIV GSD4e-9500 GPS engine is also the first GPS product based on the SiRFstarIV architecture, introduced to meet the requirements of the automotive industry. In addition, CSR announced the launch of the CSR8311, an advanced Bluetooth HCI device that has received automotive certification to enable the first application of Bluetooth Low Energy and broadband speech capabilities known as HD Voice in the automotive market.

The new SiRFstarIV GSD4e-9500 GPS engine incorporates the CSR8311 Bluetooth and CSR6000 Wi-Fi connectivity devices. Designed for Tier-1 manufacturers and OEMs to use in navigation and telematics applications embedded in vehicles and trucks worldwide, this CSR product provides a high-performance platform solution featuring automotive-certified location and connectivity capabilities. In this regard, CSR also introduced the Wi-Linx software module for the CSR6000. CSR exhibited and demonstrated its various automotive certification hardware and software solutions at booth 26 of the 'Telematics Detroit 2011 Conference,' held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan, USA, from June 8 to 9, 2011.
Charlie Lesko, Senior Vice President of CSR’s Automotive and PND business unit, said, “The launch of the GSD4e-9500 marks a significant step in CSR’s product roadmap to continuously expand its portfolio of industry-leading, automotive-certified location and connectivity products, demonstrating CSR’s continued commitment to the automotive market. Through its GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi solutions, CSR has established itself as a strong player capable of meeting the future demands of the automotive market for location and wireless connectivity.”
Automotive SiRFstarIV Solution: GSD4e-9500
The new GSD4e-9500 is the first to apply the benefits of all SiRFstarIV positioning features to automotive solutions, including active jammer removal technology, support for SiRFInstantFix™ client/server-generated extended positioning, and SiRFDRive dead reckoning technology. CSR's innovative active jammer removal technology provides automatic protection against in-band electrical interference that commonly occurs in vehicles, enabling the GSD4e to deliver superior GPS performance. CSR's SiRFInstantFix extended positioning technology and SiRFDRive dead reckoning technology provide fast first acquisition times and enhanced positional accuracy, even when the vehicle's antenna is not mounted in an optimal location, such as the bottom of the dashboard.
Since most automotive manufacturers today adopt or integrate Bluetooth and Wi-Fi into their products at different times, CSR's modular approach offers exceptional flexibility, addressing the market requirements for automotive customers to build in-dash infotainment and telematics systems.
Lars Boeryd, Marketing Director of CSR Automotive, stated, “The performance of the GSD4e-9500 has already been proven by its success in the consumer and mobile phone markets, and it is the industry’s first AEC-Q100 certified product.” He added, “With the launch of the GSD4e-9500, CSR is now able to support Tier-1 automakers and OEMs in more easily and diversely applying the SiRFstarIV architecture to vehicles under development, and is able to provide CSR’s complete and diverse solutions to the automotive market.”
The GSD4e-9500 can actively block up to eight individual interference signal sources by dynamically detecting and tracking them through active jammer technology. Furthermore, it includes various features such as a single SAW design, on-chip LNA, dual I/O, an integrated switcher, a single supply voltage, simple RF matching, and a compact size and packaging, enabling easy use and integration within vehicle platforms. Additionally, it offers system design and
