South Korea and Japan agree on the need for bilateral cooperation in building resource supply chains.
Following the MOU, Korea and Canada are discussing the establishment of a new "Core Minerals Working Group."

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) will continue its efforts to alleviate concerns about the supply chain, including discussing cooperative measures with Japan to establish a stable energy and resource supply chain and agreeing to establish a "Key Minerals Working Group" with Canada.

Yoo Beop-min, Director General of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Resources and Industry Policy Bureau, reported on the 6th that he had discussed cooperation plans between the two countries in resource sectors such as core minerals, oil, and gas through meetings with key mineral-related ministries from Japan and Canada, while attending the Mineral Security Partnership (MSP) high-level meeting on the 4th.

In particular, considering the reality that both countries depend on imports for most of their energy and resources, they agreed that cooperation between the two countries is necessary to establish a stable energy and resource supply chain. The resource directors of Korea and Japan agreed to continue discussing resource cooperation plans between the two countries through various opportunities such as the MSP and IEA.

In a meeting with Deborah Yu, Director of the Resources Division of Natural Resources Canada, the establishment of a 'Core Minerals Working Group' was discussed as a follow-up measure to the 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the Core Minerals Supply Chain, etc.' signed between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea and the Ministry of Natural Resources of Canada. Through this working group, the two countries will establish long-term and sustainable cooperation in the core minerals sector between the two countries.We plan to explore ways to cooperate physically.

In addition, in a meeting with Invest Canada Director Laura Broten, Director Yoo emphasized the high interest of Korean companies in Canada in investing in resource sectors such as core minerals, and requested the Canadian government's interest and support to ensure smooth investment by Korean companies in Canada.
