Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Galaxy A series of budget smartphones that highlight a new security platform.

Samsung Electronics announced the unveiling of the Galaxy A35 and A55 5G smartphones at its global newsroom on the 11th. While pricing and release dates have not yet been provided, industry sources estimate the A35 will be priced at around $434 (approximately 560,000 won) in the UK, and the A55 at around $562 (approximately 730,000 won). In the UK, both models are slated for a March 20 release. A domestic release date has not yet been announced.

The Galaxy A series, launching globally this time, is the successor to the A34 and A54 released last year. While much speculation is being made about the Galaxy A35 and A55, each model is expected to feature the Exynos 1480 and Exynos 1380 processors.

Both models feature a 6.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, slightly larger than the 6.4-inch A54, with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. They also support "Vision Booster," which automatically adjusts color, contrast, and brightness based on the user's surroundings, similar to the Galaxy A54. They also feature IP67-rated water and dust resistance and the same 5,000mAh battery capacity. The weights are 209g for the A35 and 213g for the A55 respectively.

The Galaxy A55 is likely to feature 12GB of RAM, a first for a mid-range smartphone, which is 4GB more than the 8GB found in the standard Galaxy S24 model, a premium lineup.

The Galaxy A55 boasts high-resolution cameras in both its ultra-wide-angle and front-facing cameras. The Galaxy A55 uses a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, while the A35 uses an 8-megapixel lens. The Galaxy A55 uses a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, while the A35 uses a 13-megapixel lens. Both main cameras feature a 50-megapixel lens.

Additionally, both models can compensate for camera shake using OIS (optical image stabilization) and VDIS (video digital image stabilization).

Samsung Electronics emphasizes its Knox security platform in this new series. "Samsung Knox Vault" upgrades hardware and software integrated security and encryption capabilities, enabling real-time threat detection.

The Galaxy A series smartphones can be organically connected with the Galaxy Fit 3, Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Buds FE, and more.

Meanwhile, there was a lot of interest in whether Samsung Electronics' popular products would also feature on-device AI, but foreign media outlets reported that the company would not include generative AI features in order to differentiate itself from premium phones such as the Galaxy S24 series. The AI function in the Galaxy A55 is expected to remain at a level where it can produce low-light images even in poorly lit environments with AI 'image signal processing (ISP)'.
