FIFA Online 3 developer Spearhead donates prize money to Park Ji-sung's JS Foundation to commemorate winning the 'MongoDB Innovation Award'
August 5, 2014, Seoul – Spearhead (CEO Lee Byung-jae), the game developer of EA SPORTS™ FIFA Online 3 (hereinafter FIFA Online 3), announced that it won the MongoDB Innovation Awards last month for the stable service of FIFA Online 3. Furthermore, given that FIFA Online 3 is a soccer game, the company donated the entire prize money to the JS Foundation, a charity established by Park Ji-sung, to commemorate this award.
The 'MongoDB Innovation Awards' were designed to recognize innovative and outstanding applications in various fields that have realized trends such as big data and the Internet of Things, achieving faster processing speeds and high-quality analytical results. Nominees were selected by MongoDB's customers, institutional committee members, and partners, and the event was held for the first time in New York, USA, on June 24, with IT experts, developers, and executives from around the world gathered in one place.
MongoDB, a company specializing in big data storage technology, provides a DB management system necessary for building big data and cloud servers. By enabling easy and fast data integration for applications, numerous institutions, including Fortune 500 companies, venture firms, hospitals, and government offices, use this system.
Spearhead was selected for the 'MongoDB Innovation Award' in recognition of the stable service provided by deploying over 250 servers and over 80 MongoDB shards to FIFA Online 3, which it developed, and for its great popularity in Asia.
Spearhead donated the entire prize money of $2,500 (approximately 2.6 million KRW) received from this award to the 'JS Foundation,' a foundation established by Park Ji-sung to support the improvement of the football environment in Southeast Asia and promising young football players. Park Ji-sung said, “I congratulate FIFA Online 3, a representative online soccer game, on its excellent performance and am grateful for the sponsorship of the JS Foundation,” adding, “I will continue to support the continued success of FIFA Online 3.”
The Asian Dream Cup, hosted by the JS Foundation, is a charity soccer event held every summer featuring famous soccer players and Korean celebrities. It began with its first match in Vietnam in 2011, and this year it took place in Jakarta, Indonesia on June 2.
"We are deeply honored to receive this award as the developer of FIFA Online 3, a leading online soccer game in Korea and Asia," said Yoon Se-hoon, Head of Spearhead. "With this award and through donations, we will continue to strive for the development of sports games and sports in the Asian region."
Meanwhile, a total of 15 prominent global companies, including FIFA Online 3, eBay, and Adobe, were honored with the 'MongoDB Innovation Award'.
