September 24, 2014, Seoul – Solutions from STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company and leading set-top box system-on-chip (SoC) supplier contributing to customers across various electronic applications, have been enabled to power various set-top box products within the NAGRA-powered QuickStart solution of SmarDTV, a subsidiary of the Kudelski Group and a major device supplier to pay TV broadcasters worldwide.
SmadiTV has equipped its SmarBOX products with ST decoders, enabling not only performance and power efficiency but also the utilization of built-in technologies for the latest Nagra technologies, such as OpenTV 5 connectware and NOCS3 hardware root-of-trust. Through this, the following new NAGRA anyCAST Security Services Platform is implemented.

The Nagra Quickstart solution is based on the latest Nagra technologies such as Nagra Anycast content security features, OpenTV 5 HTML5 Connectware, Gravity Edge User Experience, Nagra MediaLive, and cloud service platforms. Through this collaboration, SmadiTV gains access to ST’s diverse set-top box SoC product family, which offers extensive hardware and software compatibility between products, enabling equipment manufacturers to rapidly and cost-effectively develop multiple products optimized for various market segments.
Herve Mathieu, Executive Director of Box and Gateway Business at ST’s Integrated Platforms, stated, “The adoption of our SoC products in the Nagra QuickStart solution demonstrates that ST’s set-top box solutions are powerful, both technically and commercially. We aim to provide SoCs to enable cost-competitive, high-performance set-top boxes across all markets, ranging from basic hybrid zappers to media gateways powered by ST’s STiH301 and the latest HEVC connected zappers.
