The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on the 20th that they conducted a comprehensive investigation into whether or not the five automakers (38 vehicle models), including Toyota of Japan, were imported and sold domestically in relation to the recent media reports of fraudulent certifications by the relevant models.

In detail, they are Toyota (7 models), Honda (22 models), Mazda (5 models), Yamaha (3 models), and Suzuki (1 model).

The investigation found that no other vehicles of the same type were imported into the country.

However, it was confirmed that the Toyota Lexus RX and Yamaha motorcycles TMAX and YZF-R3 were each equipped with the same engine and horn as the problematic uncertified parts in Japan.

It was revealed that Toyota (Lexus RX) cheated in engine output tests (production: September 2015 to September 2022), and Yamaha (TMAX and two other models) cheated in sound test (production: April 2015 to October 2021).

Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority's Automobile Safety Research Institute began investigating manufacturing defects in two models, including the Toyota Lexus RX and Yamaha TMAX, confirmed to have been equipped with fraudulently certified parts on June 14, and the investigation is currently in progress.

In addition, although it does not correspond to negative certification, it is currently being imported to ensure domestic consumer safety., we plan to preemptively conduct a defect investigation on the engine output of the Lexus RX being sold (3 detailed models including the Toyota Lexus RX350h, RX450h+, and RX500h manufactured and sold after 2023).

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport will continue to monitor the trend of measures in Japan and the impact on Japanese imported cars in Korea, and if the results of the manufacturing defect investigation show that the subject vehicle does not meet automobile safety standards, it plans to take strict measures such as recall and imposing fines in accordance with relevant laws.
