Freescale Unveils World's Smallest Integrated Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Highly integrated tire pressure sensing products provide the smallest package and current consumption for enhanced safety through precise tire pressure sensing.
October 27, 2014, Seoul, Korea – Freescale Semiconductor Korea ( www.freescale.co.kr, CEO Yeonho Hwang) announced today the FXTH87 Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) product family.
The FXTH87 family is the smallest integrated package TPMS solution offered at an extremely light weight of 0.3g, and by reducing its size by more than 50% compared to competitor products, it enables reduced product design costs. Freescale's latest TPMS solution, which provides low power consumption and the highest level of functional integration, offers a 2-axis accelerometer, pressure and temperature sensors, an MCU, an RF transmitter, and an LF receiver in a single package.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that low tire pressure and punctures cause 23,000 accidents and 535 deaths annually. TPMS systems help prevent such accidents by monitoring proper tire pressure, while also improving fuel efficiency and reducing harmful gas emissions. Consequently, many countries around the world, including the United States, the European Union, China, Japan, and Taiwan, are mandating TPMS for new vehicles. The renowned market research firm IHS iSuppli forecasts that the TPMS market will account for more than 25% of the total automotive pressure sensor market by 2015.

"Freescale has a long history of innovation and success in the pressure sensor and automotive markets, and building on this history, we are now providing this ultra-compact, integrated, low-power system solution to our automotive customers," said Babak Taheri, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Freescale's Sensor Solutions business unit. "Since TPMS systems are installed in the vehicle's tires, size and weight are critical, and Freescale offers a unique solution that can improve the safety and efficiency of most vehicles on the road."

Charles Zhang, CEO of Baolong Group, said, "Maintaining tire pressure at the proper level enhances driver safety and improves fuel efficiency and performance." He added, "Freescale TPMS is a win-win solution that not only helps reduce our material costs but also enables us to achieve the optimized integration and small dimensions that customers expect."
