Cypress Korea (CEO Youngdo Lim, www.cypress.com ) announced that its TrueTouch touchscreen controllers provide industry-leading water resistance performance.

Because water is conductive (like a finger touching a screen), capacitive touchscreens often experience false touches caused by water drops, water films, or wet or sweaty fingers. Additionally, some mainstream smartphones have a tendency to “lock up” after water has dissipated from the screen. Manufacturers have addressed these issues with water-repellent coatings and sensing technologies that can only function accurately in the presence of small water droplets. Cypress has enabled the next generation of technology enhancements that will enable TrueTouch customers to design high-performance touchscreens without the need for expensive hydrophobic films or unintended lockups with other controllers.

Cypress’ TrueTouch devices deliver superior water resistance due to their unique patent-pending ability to perform both self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements on the same device – and dynamically switch between the two throughout the application. This capability, enabled by the flexible PSoC® architecture, is central to many other unique, industry-leading features enabled by TrueTouch, including 1-mm stylus support and hover-sensing capabilities.
