Provides 51dBm OIP3 linearity & 2.9dB noise value
October 17, 2014 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak, www.linear.com ) announced the release of the 20 MHz to 2 GHz differential input and output 20 dB gain amplifier (Product Name: LTC6430-20). This product offers excellent linearity with +51 dBm OIP3 (Output Third Order Intercept) and a noise value of 2.9 dB at 240 MHz. It also provides an industry-leading OP1 dB (Output 1 dB Compression Point) value of +23.9 dBm. The LTC6430-20 is a Class A version that is 100% tested to guarantee performance with a minimum OIP3 of +44.8 dBm and features +48.3 dBm at 380 MHz. The gain of this product is guaranteed at a minimum of 19.6 dB and a maximum of 22.1 dB. The Class AB version provides a typical OIP3 of +46.3 dBm at the same frequencies.
The LTC6430-20 is ideal for amplifying IF and RF signals in transmitters or receivers with low distortion and high dynamic range at frequencies up to 1.5 GHz. Peak frequencies at 2 GHz can be achieved with appropriate impedance matching. The linearity characteristics of the LTC6430-20 are particularly excellent when the device is used as an IF amplifier operating as the differential input of a high-speed A/D converter in primary receivers or digital pre-distortion receivers. The performance of these receivers depends on low distortion and high dynamic range. In addition, this device is ideal for low-noise amplifiers for a wide range of broadband and narrowband wireless applications operating in the VHF/UHF band, such as broadcasting equipment, cable networks, white space broadband data services, and lowband LTE/LTE-Advanced wireless base stations.
Both the input and output of the LTC6430-20 are internally matched 100Ω differentials in the 20MHz to 1.2GHz range, providing a power gain of 20.5dB with frequency response flatness superior to 0.5dB across the frequency range. The internal 100Ω matching simplifies the design and allows for easy cachecade of higher gain, requiring only a minimum number of external components. Furthermore, the differential circuit configuration generates very low second harmonic distortion. For example, at 380MHz, the second harmonic spur drops to -70dBc when fundamental.
Manufactured using the state-of-the-art SiGe BiCMOS process, the LTC6430-20 provides stable performance and withstands wide variations in power supply and temperature. The device is designed for a case operating temperature range of –40°C to 85°C.
The LTC6430-20 is available in a 4mm x 4mm QFN package. It is supplied from a single 5V power source at a power current of 170mA. The A-grade is priced at $6.83 each, while the B-grade starts at $3.69 per unit in 1,000-unit quantities. All products are available immediately.
