NXP SmartMX2 Card Platform Receives World-Leading Security Certification for MIFARE Applications
- EAL5+ Certification of Multi-Application Smart Card Platform Opens Possibilities for New Innovative Security Services and Applications
October 27, 2014, Seoul – NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI) announced that SmartMX2 technology has become the world's first to receive EAL (Evaluation Assurance Level) 5+ certification as a secure smart card platform with MIFARE Plus and MIFARE DESFire EV1 capabilities. EAL5+ is the highest security rating applicable to MIFARE applications. MIFARE applications based on SmartMX2 technology can now enhance their service level further with EAL5+ certification. For example, it enables the provision of security for electronic health cards or identity cards with payment and access functions, and enables the development of new security services in financial, e-government identity, transportation, micro-payment, customer loyalty tracking, and other sectors.
Ulrich Huewels, Senior Vice President and Head of Secure Identity Solutions at NXP Semiconductors, stated: "As smart cards rapidly evolve into comprehensive multi-application cards, advanced security is more important than ever. The ability to provide secure MIFARE applications with SmartMX2 technology represents a natural evolution in this development process. By obtaining EAL5+ certification, NXP has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing secure connections that protect personal and financial information. Consumers can benefit from the flexible payment and information access of the MIFARE platform, and can be assured that their information is securely handled through globally recognized SmartMX technology."
The SmartMX2 product family, supported by the MIFARE Flex framework, provides developers with the full set of MIFARE Plus and MIFARE DESFire protocol parameters, offering convenient access to highly flexible solutions ready for use. System designers can also optionally utilize NXP CC (common criteria) certified cryptographic library modules to build secure applications. Three types of certified SmartMX2 platforms support all MIFARE Plus and/or MIFARE DESFire EV1 card data variants, and can be configured with MIFARE Classic to optimize the use of existing infrastructure.
NXP will showcase its latest solutions for secure connectivity in a smart world through booth 4M070 at CARTES 2014, held from November 4-6 at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre in Paris, France.
