For designers seeking to improve system efficiency and minimize components in applications such as high-efficiency AC-DC converters, building modern power systems with fast switching speeds, higher efficiency, and greater power density is a critical factor.
To support designers developing these power applications, Fairchild Semiconductor, a leading global supplier of high-performance power and mobile products, has expanded its 100V and 150V PowerTrench® MOSFET product families. These products are available in industrial-type packages, including TO-220, D2PAK, TO247, I2PAK, TO220 full package, and D2PAK-7L.

These devices, part of a portfolio of medium voltage (60V–200V) power MOSFETs, are optimized power switches combining a small gate charge (QG), a small reverse recovery charge (Qrr), and a Soft Reverse Recovery Body Diode, enabling fast switching for synchronous rectification in AC-DC power supplies.
The devices utilize a shielded-gate structure that provides charge balance. By using this technology, high-efficiency solutions are provided to designers for applications such as synchronous rectification, micro solar inverters, offline UPS systems, and telecom power distribution (including PDU/BFU). The figure of merit (FOM) factor (QG x RDS(ON)), which indicates the performance of the device, has been reduced by 66% compared to previous solutions.
In addition, low reverse recovery charge and soft reverse recovery body diodes can eliminate snubber circuits or replace high-voltage MOSFETs, which has the advantage of increasing system efficiency and reducing the bill of materials (BOM).
The first products released are FDP083N15A_F102, FDB082N15A, and FDP036N10A, which are N-channel PowerTrench MOSFETs. Featuring a shielded-gate structure, these devices have reduced gate charge to enable higher switching speeds while maintaining low Rds(on). Furthermore, the PowerTrench MOSFET family meets environmental regulations such as RoHS, halogen, and PB-free packaging.
Semiconductor devices are also evolving to meet the high-efficiency systems required for today's power applications. Fairchild, which possesses a wide range of PowerTrench MOSFET products, has proactively developed and launched a new medium-voltage PowerTrench MOSFET amidst this change.
