Xilinx expands 20nm Kintex UltraScale portfolio for the most demanding data center acceleration, video, and signal processing applications
Kintex UltraScale KU115 FPGA sales commence
Xilinx Korea (Managing Director An Heung-sik) November 6, 2014 – Xilinx announced the launch of the Kintex® UltraScale™ KU115 FPGA, expanding its 20nm portfolio. As a key product in the Kintex UltraScale family, the KU115 boasts the highest DSP count among single programmable devices, delivering twice the resources compared to previous DSP offerings. Optimized for DSP applications, the KU115 FPGA is well-suited for data center compute acceleration and signal processing applications including data centers, video and medical imaging, broadcast systems, and radar. Xilinx is shipping the KU115 to multiple customers, bringing the fourth 20nm UltraScale device to market. The exceptional adoption rate and user feedback of the UltraScale product family demonstrate the significant value provided to Xilinx customers such as engineers at Google Maps, who create world maps.
The Kintex UltraScale KU115 FPGA is optimized for a full range of DSP-intensive computing from floating-point to fixed-point operations. Embedded DSP blocks capable of up to 8,181 GMAC for symmetric filtering applications include improved high-resolution video encoding, forward error correction (FEC) for wired communication systems, and cyclical redundancy check (CRC) for complex filtering operations widely used in wireless communications and aerospace applications. The KU115's optimal performance per watt, utilizing resources more efficiently with each operation, meets the requirements of processing-intensive systems with stringent power and thermal constraints. When combined with high-level abstraction tools such as Vivado® HLS (High Level Synthesis) and Xilinx's OpenCL SDK (software defined development) environment, it becomes a complete solution that minimizes computational bottlenecks when designing and implementing DSP-intensive algorithms.
Kintex UltraScale FPGAs feature up to 1.16M logic cells, 5,520 optimized DSP slices, 76 Mbit of block RAM, 16.3Gbps backplane performance transceivers, PCIe® Gen3 hard block, integrated 100Gb/s Ethernet MAC, 150 Gb/s Interlaken IP core, and DDR4 memory interface operating at 2,400 Mb/s. Kintex devices achieve a new mid-range benchmark with best price-to-performance at the lowest power 28nm, and deliver the highest DSP count at 20nm.
