STMicroelectronics Enables Mobile Devices with Clearer Sound Quality Even in Noisy Environments Using New Advanced MEMS Micros
November 7, 2014, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company contributing to customers across a wide range of electronic applications, has launched the new MEMS microphone MP23AB02B. This product helps smartphones and wearable devices achieve better performance when making calls or recording in noisy environments by maintaining an ultra-low distortion rate of less than 10% even at high external sound pressure levels.
Measuring 3.35mm x 2.5mm x 0.98mm, with an acoustic overload level of 125dBSPL and a signal-to-noise ratio of 64dBA, it delivers industry-leading performance despite its small size. The secret to achieving this performance lies in the dedicated design of the preamplifier, which prevents the output signal from saturating even in environments with high background noise levels—such as concert halls, bars, or clubs where users speak loudly with their mouths close to the microphone. Additionally, it provides omnidirectional sensitivity, ensuring overall superior performance and versatility for mobile applications.
The MP23AB02B is easy to design in. It operates on a single supply voltage range of 1.8V to 3.6V and generates a single-terminal output. With an average operating current of 150µA, it offers extremely low power consumption, simplifying thermal management and maximizing battery life. Additionally, it supports a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, ensuring excellent robustness and reliability.

MP23AB02B is currently being mass-produced in an RHLGA 3-lead metal-cap package, and the price is $1 per unit for orders of 1,000.
