Analog Devices Launches Industry's First 24-Bit Sigma-Delta A/D Converter with True Rail-to-Rail Analog and On-Chip Reference Input Buffer
– ADI Introduces Ultra-Low Noise A/D Converters for High-Precision Measurement and Process Control Applications with Fast and Flexible Output Data Rates
November 12, 2014 – Analog Devices ( www.analog.com , NASDAQ: ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications, has launched the industry's first sigma-delta converter featuring a truly fully integrated rail-to-rail input buffer. This product provides system designers with industry-leading noise performance at throughputs of up to 250 kSPS.
The AD7175-2 A/D sigma-delta converter delivers noise-free 24-bit at 20 SPS and noise-free 17.2-bit at 250 kSPS. Offering designers a wider dynamic range, this product can measure even small signal deviations, meeting the requirements of analytical research instrumentation systems. Compared to competing solutions, the AD7175-2 offers twice the throughput while consuming the same amount of power, enabling the construction of faster and more responsive measurement systems. It provides a scan rate of 50 kSPS per channel with a setup time of 20 µs. This combination is suitable for use in programmable logic controllers and input modules for distributed processing systems.
Furthermore, the use of a true rail-to-rail input buffer with integrated low-noise characteristics enables fast and easy sensor connection, reduces design and placement complexity, simplifies analog drive circuitry, and decreases PCB area. The AD717x family offers a wide range of pin and software compatibility, allowing for integration and standardization across system platforms.

Features of the AD7175-2 A/D Converter
• User-configurable input channels
o 2 differential or 4 single-ended channels
o Independent programs are possible for each channel
• 2 ppm/°C reference with integrated 2.5 V buffer
• Flexible and per-channel programmable digital filter
• Enhanced filter that filters 50Hz and 60Hz simultaneously
• Operating temperature range of −40°C to +105°C
Performance enhancement parts
Components that can be added to the AD7175-2 for signal chain design include the ultra-low noise, zero-drift operational amplifier ADA4528-2, the low-noise instrumentation amplifier AD8429, and the precision fully differential funnel amplifier AD8475.
