World's First GCF Approval Obtained for Verified WI-164 eMBMS Performance Test Case Supporting LTE Terminal Broadcast Services
Anritsu Corporation (Representative Director: Hirokazu Hashimoto) announced that it has become the first test equipment supplier to achieve GCF*1 approved test case verification for LTE eMBMS reference band 4 and band 13 RF performance test cases*2.
eMBMS is a multicast service standard for LTE mobile networks defined in 3GPP Release 9, designed to enable data transmission with a larger capacity than that supported by existing MBMS technology.
The main advantage of eMBMS technology is that it can simultaneously broadcast data to an unspecified number of users using LTE network frequencies, which offers higher distribution efficiency and enables the suppression of network load compared to the previous unicast method of broadcasting from a single base station to a single terminal system.
In addition, this technology can be used during live broadcasting to send multiple video streams from different angles to users in locations where many people gather, such as concerts and sports events.
Commercial service already began in Korea in 2014 and is expected to start in North America soon.
With this new release, approved by the GCF in October 2014, Anritsu became the first company in the world to obtain GCF verification for a conformity test case for the WI-164 E-UTRA MBMS Rel-9 FDD*3, which supports Band 4 and Band 13 used in North America. As a result, Anritsu's measurement solution now supports GCF-validated LTE eMBMS conformance testing for frequencies, and it is expected to launch commercial services in North America before the end of this year.
Installing the developed eMBMS option on the ME7873L supports GCF eMBMS testing.
Anritsu continues to focus on obtaining GCF/PTCRB*4 verification to help with the early deployment of LTE eMBMS across various frequency bands.
