Leading the IoT transformation of vehicles through mass production of automotive CSR1010TM
November 14, 2014 – CSR ( http://www.csr.com ), a global provider of innovative semiconductor ICs and software solutions for location awareness, multimedia, and cloud connectivity, announced the automotive CSR1010™, the world's first AEC-Q100 Class 2 Bluetooth® Smart chipset.
The CSR1010™ enables vehicle manufacturers to design new features to be added to infotainment systems and innovative Bluetooth Smart applications for the interior and exterior of vehicles.
The CSR1010™ minimizes unnecessary cables and offers advantages such as low power consumption, while providing various additional features to the existing limited automotive application sectors. Bluetooth Smart functionality enables drivers to use their smartphones or tablets to access infotainment systems and perform vehicle diagnostics and analysis, including engine and fuel information. This allows drivers to check the vehicle information they need at any time. CSR's automotive chips have been tested under various conditions. Through these tests, stable operation has been demonstrated even in harsh external environments, such as tires or smart antennas, specifically within an extreme temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.
Furthermore, with support for the CSR mesh™ protocol, the automotive CSR1010 can directly connect to and control most Bluetooth Smart devices from head unit displays, smartphones, or tablets. The protocol utilizes Bluetooth Smart to send messages to other Bluetooth devices over the network. A significant advantage of the CSR mesh network is that it requires no installation or configuration. Once devices are registered to the network, the network continues to operate even after some devices are removed. Therefore, in the future, other mesh network applications can be stably networked with external vehicle accessories such as roof racks and trailers.

Manufacturers can begin ordering the automotive CSR1010 product starting today. CSR has also released an automotive CSR1010 development kit to enable developers to use the automotive module. Available from the end of the year, this kit can accelerate the development of new low-power vehicle connectivity products. It includes two development boards, three application examples, and three additional hardware boards associated with each example. Even developers unfamiliar with Bluetooth technology can install it without difficulty, and the application examples include a Keyless Entry System, a Multifunction Steering Wheel, and a Temperature Pressure Sensor. Meanwhile, this kit was unveiled at Telematics Munich 2014 on November 10–11.
