Launch of a New Product Family of Data Converters and Digital Isolators Delivering Precise Performance

TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) November 17, 2014 – TI (CEO Kent Chon) announced the launch of digital isolator and delta-sigma modulator families that protect electronic devices from high line voltages with enhanced isolation capabilities. The ISO7842 family provides the industry's best-in-class enhanced isolator and is the first device to offer isolation barrier immunity against an operating breakdown voltage of 1,500 Vrms, capable of maintaining a lifespan of at least 40 years. The AMC1304 delta-sigma modulator family enables enhanced isolation for current shunt monitoring by providing best-in-class precision and consuming the lowest power (for more details on the new enhanced isolation families, see http://www.ti.com/isolation-pr-kr ).

Manufacturers of factory automation, motor control, and other industrial equipment can address data rate requirements and push the boundaries of system performance by integrating advanced electronics to reduce power consumption and improve efficiency and system intelligence. TI's newly released devices meet stringent functional safety isolation requirements for applications that may be exposed to high voltage breakdown by providing robust, high-speed, high-performance reinforced isolation. In addition, it provides reliability for decades by offering precise analog performance and high immunity to noisy industrial environments.

Key advantages of the ISO7842 product family
• Superior and comprehensive reinforced isolation breakdown rating: Provides reinforced insulation against maximum transient overvoltages of 8,000V according to the standard DIN V VDE 0884-10. Additionally, ISO 7842 exceeds the general rating of 5,000Vrms with an insulation rating of 5,700Vrms according to the standard UL 1577. (UL certified component and DIN V VDE 0884-10 certification pending)
• Long-term reliability: Achieves up to 50% higher performance compared to competing solutions with an industry-leading operating voltage of 1,500 Vrms.
• Minimization of data transmission errors: Provides reliable communication in noisy environments with high Common Mode Transient Immunity (CMTI) performance of 100kV/µs.
• Industry-leading protection: Featuring the industry's highest surge voltage protection rating of 12,800 VPEAK, ISO7842 can withstand high surge voltage pulses, protecting electronic devices from damage caused by voltage spikes.
• High-speed and high-precision timing: ISO7842 provides accurate timing with data rates of over 100 Mbps and low jitter.

Key advantages of the AMC1304 product family
• Industry-leading precision performance: Achieves industry-leading DC performance with a maximum offset error of 150µV and a gain error of +/- 0.3%. In addition, the device guarantees high accuracy over a full operating temperature range of -40C to 125C with the lowest thermal drift specifications, and motor control designers can minimize distortion and noise with industry-leading AC performance.
• Lowest power: With the industry's lowest power consumption (maximum 7mA on the primary side, 5mA on the secondary side) and a 50mV input voltage range, the power consumption of the entire system can be reduced by up to 80%.
• Simplified System Design: The four AMC1304 delta-sigma modulators are the first in the industry to integrate a low dropout voltage (LDO), allowing developers to connect the modulator even to unrectified supply voltages. When used with TI’s C2000™ Delfino™ TMS320F2837x and the TMS320F2807x microcontroller (MCU) which integrates the modulator interface and sink filter, the AMC1304 can improve system performance by acquiring multiple analog signals more efficiently and precisely.
• High-voltage insulation protection: This product provides enhanced insulation against 7,000V peak voltage, 10,000V surge voltage, and operating voltages of 1,000Vrms and 1,500Vdc, and is certified to UL 1577 and DIN V VDE 0884-10 standards.

Tools and support for immediate design
TI enables developers to shorten time-to-market by utilizing the ISO7842 and AMC1304 product families through support for hardware evaluation kits and reference designs in the TI Designs library.

The isolated current shunt and voltage feedback reference design (TIDA-00171) implements the AMC1304 delta-sigma modulator and the C2000™ TMS320F28377D Delfino™ MCU. This design was demonstrated for motor control applications at Electronica 2014 (Electronica 2014 Trade Fair, Hall A4, Booth 420). The isolated LVDS reference design (TIDA-00330) implements a robust high-speed serial interface design using reinforced isolated M-LVDS transceiver nodes and isolated power supplies, utilizing an ISO7842 digital isolator, SN65MLVD203 M-LVDS transceiver, SN6501 transformer driver, and TPS76333 single-channel LDO. Two types of reinforced isolated reference designs are currently available from TI.

Package, supply time, and price
The 4-channel ISO7842 is the industry's first reinforced digital isolator family, which includes 4, 3, 2, and 1-channel devices. The ISO7842 is currently available for purchase, and additional devices are scheduled to be available in the first quarter of 2015. The AMC1304M25 and AMC1305L25 delta-sigma modulators, which integrate LDO and CMOS interfaces, are the first of seven devices supporting inputs from +/-50 to +/-250mV. Sample orders for the AMC1304M25 will be available starting November 18, and all devices are scheduled for mass production in early 2015.
